First Tutoring Experience!

So today we got to meet our kids and group we will be tutoring.. let me back up!

As I described before, in my class I will be paired up with a first grader, assess their literacy, and tutor them for the semester. In addition, I am grouped with two of my classmates (and fortunately, my friends) to tutor their students plus one more ELL student. So, we will plan lessons for our own individual students AND create group lessons to accommodate all of our students!

Today we got to meet our students. We basically just were told to have it be a get to know you day, so we did that. I created an inventory of different topics and had the students rate if they liked them or not. They were enthusiastic about most subjects. Next, we started About Me books. We each made one ourselves, and had the students work on their own. We will finish the activity at our next meeting next week.

The students were crazy, energetic, goofy, and all different. My student is sometimes slow working and frustrated, but I'm excited to learn how to teach every kind of student!

In addition, this week I returned back to my RTI position at the lab school. I am so excited because last semester I worked with first graders and a little with second grade, and now I am working with third and fifth graders! It's fun because while some of their skills to work on are the same, I can do all sorts of different activities and reading with these ages. I can't wait to find out which grade I belong in.
