Tentative placement!

Well the day finally came! Four days after my application was due, my placement was emailed to me! (I truly admire the hardworking women in charge of placing the 150+ students who apply to this program so quickly). I got my first choice district placement! It is a suburb about 30-45 minutes from my house, where I will be moving back.

While the acceptance form I had to fill out was very official, I am so excited! I must still complete all my Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 classes to be fully accepted, but it's basically for real!

There is a lot of information I don't know, including my school, cooperating teacher, grade(s), and who else I am in the program with. There will be an interview process in the winter I am told to place us with the perfect cooperating teacher.

I recently looked up some statistics on the district I will be teaching in to compare it to my old school district. Where I went to school, the district had about 3000+ students, 19.2% were low income, about 81% were white, 7% Hispanic, 7% Asian, and 5% Black. My student teaching district is so different and I look forward to the challenge of the diverse environment. It has over 40,000 students. The district is 50% Hispanic, 32% White, 8% Asian, and 7% Black.

While I first thought, in past years, that I would be comfortable going back to my own environment, I have decided it is good to be scared and intimidated! A challenge is what really teaches and allows you to grow.

I can't wait to find out more!
