Introductions

Well, yesterday was a super exciting day to say the least!

I made the first drive to my future location of my classes - the district office. The drive was about 40 minutes, and not too complicated or crazy so far. Luckily, my school is also about five minutes away from the district office! I will be attending class Thursdays 9-2 with a working lunch, alternating each week from Social Studies and Science and Fridays 9-12 for Language Arts. I had lunch at the office with all of the new interns and the old interns that just graduated. I also got my new staff ID! I have to do background checks, resumes, transcripts, and a TB test, but overall just stay in contact with everybody until August 11. August 11 is our orientation day, the 12-13 we will set up the room with our teacher, and the 14 and 15 are institute days where we will accompany our cooperating teacher (CT.) The 18th I start school!

Then, the girl who interned for my CT took me to meet her after lunch. My CT's name is Sam. I am about her ninth or tenth intern she has had, so I am pretty excited about that. I went to her classroom and was happy by all of the organization and colors. She looked very sweet, but effective! The old intern told me some books to buy, since Sam uses Daily 5, Cafe, and PBIS frequently. I also learned she is very involved in the school with committees, which I will attend and work on with her. She told me she usually was at school in the fall from 730-430 with Sam. It will be long and hard, but I am so excited to learn from her. She sounds very willing to help you plan and learn and to teach you! She was very friendly to talk to, and I met one of her teacher friends while I was there too.

I did learn some news about how I will not be able to be hired in the district I am student teaching in, but that's ok. I don't know if I'll want to stay there or move around in a year anyway. The school district is known for being challenging, and if I can handle this challenge, I can handle anywhere. I really just hope to become good friends with Sam, so she can be a mentor and a friend to me. It's so crazy it's all happening!
